PUPPET SLAM

The Wham, Bam! Puppet Slam is a fast-paced, adult-oriented puppetry showcase that brings together a rotating cast of puppeteers for a night of irreverent, creative, and often hilarious short-form performances. Hosted by the larger-than-life personality Toybox (aka “America’s Favorite Cartoon Witch”), the slam format allows multiple acts—each under 10 minutes—to take the stage with everything from shadow puppets and marionettes to found-object and mixed-media puppetry.

“An evening of short, hilarious, experimental puppet shows intended for mature audiences, and hosted by Toybox, America’s Favorite Cartoon Witch.” - Citizen Vinyl

Unlike traditional puppet shows aimed at kids, Wham Bam is unapologetically grown-up, leaning into satire, absurdity, and theatrical experimentation. The atmosphere is part underground comedy club, part art house, and wholly unique—drawing crowds who love a mix of live theater, performance art, and edgy humor. Each show feels like a celebration of creativity, offering both laughs and moments of unexpected depth.

Held at indie venues throughout Asheville and supported by the national Puppet Slam Network, the event also serves as a platform for emerging and veteran puppeteers alike. Whether you’re there for silly sketches, surreal storytelling, or just the electric energy of something totally different, the Wham, Bam! Puppet Slam is a one-of-a-kind night out you won’t forget.
